Course Description
A Practical Approach to Shoe Fit and Aesthetics (AM2026-TW18)Provide practical ways to implement best shoe fitting practices as determined by the International Working Group of the Diabetic Foot. Demonstrate for practitioners how quick and easy it can be to fit patients in shoes that fit properly and that they want to wear. Present an effective way to determine the correct shoe length and width to demonstrate comfort while addressing aesthetic concerns.
It's well understood that therapeutic footwear is part of the standard of care for keeping diabetic foot ulceration "in remission". Unfortunately, people at risk commonly fail to protect themselves and as a consequence, too frequently incur ulceration, infection, amputation, and death. Barriers to utilization include inadequate health literacy, insurance coverage, and aesthetic concerns, amongst others. This workshop will demonstrate key points for both shoe prescribers and fitters to communicate to patients. Also, a technique to effectively and efficiently select shoes that demonstrates how comfortable they can fit and how good they can look.
