Transfemoral Certificate Program: Session 1 (CERT1)

Credit Hours

1.5 Scientific Credits

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze gait deviations in individuals with transfemoral prostheses by identifying key biomechanical patterns such as reduced knee flexion, altered trunk motion, and asymmetrical propulsion.
  • Evaluate the role of video-based gait analysis and observational tools (e.g., Prosthetic Observational Gait Score) in assessing movement quality and tracking patient progress over time.
  • Explain the impact of prosthetic alignment, socket design, and patient strength on gait efficiency, stability, and overall energy expenditure in transfemoral amputees.

Course Description

Module One: Gait Analysis – What to Watch and How to Improve as Clinicians - Cara Negri, CP/LP

Module Two: PT's Role in Alignment - Patty Young, MSPT, CP

The Transfemoral Certificate Program is a program designed to enhance prosthetists’ ability to provide comprehensive care for individuals with transfemoral amputations. The course covers a range of transfemoral prosthetic interfaces, key factors affecting alignment, and therapy considerations. It also presents strategies for optimizing these areas to maximize successful outcomes for transfemoral prosthesis users.

Completing all three sessions meets one of the Certificate requirements for the Fellow of the Academy program.
