Transfemoral Certificate Program: Session 2 (CERT2)

Credit Hours

1.5 Scientific Credits

Learning Objectives

  • Identify key gait deviations and energy demands associated with individuals using a transfemoral prosthesis, including factors impacting stability and efficiency.
  • Analyze patient gait using observational and video-based methods, including tools such as the Prosthetic Observational Gait Score (POGS), to assess movement patterns and asymmetries.
  • Apply clinical strategies to improve prosthetic gait performance, including alignment considerations, socket design implications, and the role of hip strength and rehabilitation.

Course Description

Module Three:  Socket Concepts and Comfort - Kevin Carroll, MS, CP, FAAOP(D)

Module Four: Bone-Anchored Prosthesis Systems and Alignment Considerations - Glen Thompson, MS, CPO

The Transfemoral Certificate Program is a program designed to enhance prosthetists’ ability to provide comprehensive care for individuals with transfemoral amputations. The course covers a range of transfemoral prosthetic interfaces, key factors affecting alignment, and therapy considerations. It also presents strategies for optimizing these areas to maximize successful outcomes for transfemoral prosthesis users.

Completing all three sessions meets one of the Certificate requirements for the Fellow of the Academy program.
